Intermediate Championship

St.Mary’s Park, Castleblayney was the setting for our round 2B match with Monaghan Harps last Saturday evening. It was a match that failed to live up to expectations and one where we had a catalogue of missed scores in the first period, only registering a single point from play to add to an Eddie Walsh free early on. Trailing 0-05 to 0-02 at half-time tells its own story. No doubt stern words were said during the interval as we emerged with a bit more gusto making several changes and taking the game to the Harps. Harps did hit the opening two points of the second half in the 35th & 38th minutes to lead 0-07 to 0-02 but in contrast to our first half showing that would prove to be the end of their scoring in normal time. It was one of ‘those nights’ as the usually steady Stephen McMahon saw his early second half penalty kick rebound off the post and nothing seemed to be going for us but we finished strongly hitting five unanswered points and perhaps with a bit more directness and ambition could have nicked the victory and for the second time for us in this year’s Championship it was to be extra-time after the game finished level 0-07 a-piece. Extra-time proved to be a more open contest as both teams tired, but Harps found that little bit extra and quickly opened up a 4-point lead which they would not relinquish and ran out 0-13 to 0-09 winners.

Team & Scorers; Kian Duffy, Ronan Grimes, Ronan Duffy, Robbie Berg, Cillian Leegan, Tiernan Duffy, Conor Vernon, Dean Connolly, Gavin Flanagan (0-01), Killian Collins, Stephen McMahon, Michael Vernon, Danny Leegan, Adam Kieran, Eddie Walsh (0-07). Subs used: Jack Kiernan for Danny Leegan, Mark Grimes for Gavin Flanagan, Sean Finn for Adam Kieran, Eddie Markey (0-01) for Michael Vernon, Daryl Traynor for Cillian Leegan, Danny Leegan for Jack Kiernan (inj), Michael Quinn for Kian Duffy (inj)

Intermediate League

We will play Cremartin in the Intermediate League at home next Sunday lunchtime, throw-in is at 12.30pm – this certainly is a must win game for us to cement our position on fourth spot.

U-17 Championship

U-17 Div 1 & 2 Championship result – Latton 5-14 Killanny 1-08. Despite this defeat we qualify for the semi-final where we will play Scotstown in Cremartin on Tuesday night at 6.15pm

U-15 Championship

Our U-15’s secured a place in the championship final on Thursday evening past following a comfortable win over Cremartin at Carrickmacross. The match was played in ideal conditions at a well-appointed Emmett Park. Killanny were quick to settle with Conor Burns and Tomas Quinn both finding the back of the Cremartin net early on. At midfield Tomas Gartlan and Cillian McGahan were dominant throughout and they got good support from Matthew Matthers and Cillian McConnon. In defence Christopher Tobin and Conaill Marry repeatedly caught the eye while time and again Colin Murphy and John Gartlan thwarted the Cremartin attack. In the second half Killanny continued to dominate with Cian Burns and John Kelly to the fore. In goals Mark Carolan made a number of fine saves when called upon which ensured we were always in control. We introduced Darren Murphy, Iarla Gartlan, Sean O’Reilly and Padraig Corrigan all who put their hands up for a start the next day. We now look forward to the final which will take place on the weekend of the 21st – 22nd September.
