Seniors: The seniors returned to league action on Sunday with Emyvale again providing the opposition. There was to be none of the drama of the previous championship encounter as Donaghmoyne took control of the game from the off. The first half was started with scores from Davy Garland, James McCaghey and Padraig Donaghy, after 15 minutes it was double scores 6-3 with further scores from Garland, McCaghey and Stephen Finnegan. James McCaghey converted a penalty and further scores from Garland, Cormac O’Connor and Darren McElroy left the half time score at 1-11 to 7 points. Emyvale started the second half strongly and closed to within 3 points keeping Donaghmoyne scoreless for over twenty minutes. Eventually the Fontenoys began to reassert their control on the game with points from Garland, Finnegan and goals from Darren Coleman and Cormac O’Connor. Final score 3-15 to 1-12. No fixtures this weekend.
U17s: The U17s gave a convincing performance to overcome Monaghan Harps in the Championship quarter final on Tuesday last. They now face Latton in the semifinal this Saturday at 5.00. Venue to be decided. Please come along and support the lads.
U13s: There were great celebrations in Drumhowan on Sunday afternoon as the U13s won the Division 5 championship in convincing fashion. The lads put in a terrific first half performance coming from 1-02 to no score after 10 minutes to lead 5-04 to 2-02 at the break. The second half was a tighter affair with both teams finding scores hard to come by in tricky conditions. Donaghmoyne added two more points in the second half and had 8 points to spare at the end. Final score 5-6 to 2-7. Well done to all the players and management team of Peter Boylan, Geraldine Gilmartin, Anthony Burns, Declan Martin and James Connolly. Team: C. McEneaney, R. McKenna, R. Conor McSkeane Memorial Tournament: The Conor McSkeane memorial tournament was held on Saturday morning in glorious sunshine and was a great success with a huge crowd in attendance. This year there were teams from Aughnamullen, Blackhill, Drumhowan, Latton and Oram playing in U7, U9 and U11 categories. The quality of the football was a credit to the clubs and coaches involved and Donaghmoyne were to enjoy a very successful morning winning both the U9 and U11 competitions with Oram claiming the U11 shield competition. This was also the first football to be played on the new pitch and there couldn’t be a better way to christen the new field as this development will be used by all the future generations of young Donaghmoyne footballers. Well done to everyone who worked so hard in organizing this event and thankyou to all the people who helped on the day with food, car parking, refereeing and setting up the pitches. Lastly thankyou to everyone who gave sponsorship or made donations on the day.
