Mighty Mitchells Make A Massive Second Half Resurgence

Mallon’s Sausages U17 Division 2 League Shield Final

Magheracloone 5-10  Scvotstown 3-07

30/7/2019

Aughnamullen was the venue for the Mallon’s Sausages U17 Division 2 League Shield Final between Magheracloone and Scotstown on Tuesday last. It was a battle of North v South and the battle turned out to be an epic one. Conditions could not have been any worse for the players in the first half. As referee Sean McDonnell threw in the ball it was clear to see that the rain was certainly going to put a dampener on proceedings.

Scotstown controlled the game from the off and kicked three unanswered points in the first eight minutes. Daniel Mc Cahey replied in the tenth minute for Magheracloone’s first score of the game but that was cancelled out by a lovely score from Jamie Maguire. Joe kirk and Dylan Byrne pointed shortly after but Scotstown turned up the heat and netted twice within two minutes to put serious pressure on the Mitchells. Magheracloone quickly retaliated with a goal from Joe Kirk but Scotstown were also in the mood for scoring goals and Paul Maguire duly obliged in the twenty-eight minute of the first half. Two more points from Scotstown left the half time score Magheracloone 1-03 Scotstown 3-07.

As the second half got underway the rain thankfully had stopped and we soon had ourselves a game of football. A 45’ from Daniel McCahey got the scoring underway for Magheracloone and from there they got to grips with the game and scores from Kian Duffy, Daniel McCahey and Oisin Byrne soon had Magheracloone chomping at the heels of Scotstown. Scotstown battled hard to keep Magheracloone at bay but Magheracloone had other ideas and a hat trick of goals put them on the road to winning their first piece of silverware this year. Full time score Magheracloone 5-10 Scotstown 3-09
