Feile Semi-Final! You wanted a wooden heart not to feel for our boys in the semi-final of the Division 3 Feile competition. After winning all their group games and their quarter final we headed to the Connaught Centre of Excellence to try and achieve something for our club and county. Emmets had the first two points from play and then went three points up. The first setback arrived in the shape of a goal from the opposition which was followed by two points. Half time; Emmets 0-03 Crosserlough 1-02: The second setback came immediately after the break with a second goal conceded. Emmets reply was two quick points to leave a goal between the sides; it soon disappeared when Emmets got their second goal. Crosserlough broke through for their third goal and again the Emmets drew level with a goal. The Cavan side went a point ahead; Emmets equalised; Cavan went a point ahead again and Emmets equalised; so after the two fifteen-minute halves the score was Emmets 3-05 Crosserlough 3-05. Playing with the wind in the first period of the extra time Emmets took the lead with a point and then the all-important goal arrived leaving them with a four-point advantage. The ups and downs of each team brought great moments of excitement and in a captivating spell the hopes and dreams of both teams was on the edge! Emmets secured a single point from play but a penalty-kick a free-kick and point from play levelled the match and into a shootout. A large crowd of spectators had gathered along the forty-five line to witness the duel; Emmets had two points from their five; the Cavan men also had two which left it all square! Sudden death was the final part of the drama: the same five boys lined up again to try and separate the deadlock and the count went in favour of Crosserlough! These young Emmets were ambassadors of the highest order for our club and our county.
