St. Mellans Handball Club: Juvenile All Ireland Semi-Finals. All roads lead to Galway this weekend as our 2 pairings of girls play their All Ireland semi-finals in Claregalway this Sunday coming the 10th of March, first into the alley will be the U14 Girls Doubles pairing of Fiona Flood & Aoibhinn Mc Cluskey, there they face Leah Ni Mhainnin agus Clodhna Ni Chonghaile from Galway, after that the U16 Girls Doubles Semi-Final takes place where Eythna Boyle & Sarah Lavery play Eadaoin Ni Dhonnacha agus Skylyn Ni Mhaile also from Galway, the club and all involved would like to wish all 4 girls good luck, and lets hope for a small rub of the green along with all the practice that has went in, we would also like to wish Teirnan O Rourhe, Eoghan Mc Ginnity and Devidas Kaklauskas good luck in their respective semi’s also in Galway and Mayo alleys, I forgot to congratulate Devidas last week on winning his U17 Ulster final, good luck boys from all in the club.
Adult Ireland Semi-Final. Also at the weekend Michael Mc Carron plays in The Ruby Master Singles All Ireland Semi-Final, Michael Mc Carron played his deferred Ulster final against John Mc Cullagh from Tyrone on Saturday past, this final went to a tie-breaker, Michael lost the first 14-21 but settled re-grouped and took the 2nd emphatically 21-6, the 3rd just wasn’t as simple and he was made go almost the whole way as he won it and the title 21-19, a hard earned victory but hopefully this will stand to him in his All Ireland Semi-Final in the RMS against Padraig Gillard from Mayo, this game takes place in Beragh on Saturday coming the 9th with the game starting at around 2:30pm.
Adult Club Singles. Our adult Singles Finals took place Sunday past (March 3rd), in The Gola Woodworks final the young gun Karl Mc Meel took on the slightly more seasoned Niall Rooney and this proved the different as Niall took the title, the first game got away on Karl a bit as Niall won it 21-11, but in the second game Karl got into a better rhythm and got up to the speed of the game and almost pushed a tie-breaker but Niall stayed cool and took the 2nd game and the title 21-19, but a great year for Karl as he had some significant scalps on his way to the final, well done Niall and good luck in the SilverHill next year, and on the SilverHill it was a meeting of old play mates of Fergal O Neill and Christopher Mc Kenna(D) in it’s final, this was a game that Christopher took control of from the outset, Fergal was close in the first game but lost it 21-15, but the second got away from him early on and he just couldn’t claw it back and Chrissy took the 2nd game in some style on a score line of 21-7, hard luck Fergal but well done Christopher, it’s still there!.
Adult Club Doubles. The adult club doubles fixtures are now in circulation please ensure all games are played on time, thank you.
