St.Mellans Handball Club
Juvenile County Doubles
We had the remaining boys doubles championships at the weekend in St. Mellans, we had no U13’s, in the U14’s we had a straight final where John & Peter Treanor defeated fellow club men Dillon O Reilly & Cameron McMeel 15-8, 15-5, in the U15’s we had 3 pairings, Jake McGeough & Mark Deery defeated Noah McMeel & Oisin McCaffrey then in the final they also won where they beat Aaron Cassidy & Gary Treanor 15-14, 15-1, then in the U16’s Aidan McKenna & David McKenna lost the 1st semi to Aidan McGeough & Szymon Poleski from the Harps, Padraig Treanor & Mark Cassidy had a good tussle against Brendan Hamil from the Harps where it went to tie-breaker and they won it 15-12, 14-15, 11-10, but our boys came undone against the Harps boys Szymon & Aidan in the final, but we must compliment all our boys & girls for turning up and doing their best to keep our game alive and well.

Girls U16 Final
We also had the conclusion to the girl’s championships at the weekend where Eythna Boyle traveled to the Harps to play defending champion Louise McGinnity in the U16 Singles final, Louise hasn’t been the reigning champion from U12’s for no reason as she stamped her authority on the game throughout, she won both games 15-1, 15-0, but I think if Eythna have had a bit more alley time I think she would have made a bigger impact on the score line, the old saying practice makes perfect, again thanks to all who have turned out in the clubs colour’s over the championships. Juvenile Team League. Our Juvenile League is running very smoothly so keep all games played up to date.

Mono League
The Mono League is progressing along nicely with pretty much all games played up to date, so please ensure you play you game on or before the allocated time, and any outstanding games try and get them played during the holidays as the semi-finals will be sorted shortly after Christmas, thank you.

Adults Singles & Doubles
We will soon be drawing up the adults singles & doubles for commencing shortly after Christmas so anyone thinking of playing that maybe didn’t play in the team league are more than welcome to come and play.

Get Well Soon
We would like to wish 3 of our juveniles a speedy recovery from injuries, Dermott McKenna, Molly Flood and Ella McKenna, get well soon all.

A big congratulations to Anna-Rose McClave after being nominated for volunteer of the year from the club, a very worthy winner, any time the club calls on her help in any way she always answers, well done Anna-Rose.

Festive Break
As we approach the Christmas break the club would like to wish everyone in and outside the club a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year, as we enter 2019 lets hope we will still be going as strong for many more years to come, all the activities in the club would not be possible without the work from all our volunteers and the support from the wider community who support us in ever way, so have a good break and see you all again in ’19.

County Doubles Championship Finals

There was plenty of action in St. Mellans on Saturday last with Oisin/Matas, Eithean/Jack competing in the BU13D finals. This was a close match with the new pairing of Jack & Eithean surprising the crowd with their serving and return of service with both games going the distance and only loosing out narrowly to the stronger pairing of Oisin & Matas, well done on a hearty performance.
In the BU16D Adrius/Brendan put up a great battle with the Mellan’s pairing of Padraig/Mark taking the game to a tie breaker and only loosing by a single point. Aidan/Szymon dominated from the start in their semi against another Mellan’s pairing of Aidan/Dermot and went on to win the final in convincing fashion.
On Sunday evening at the Harps Louise McGinnity played Eithne Boyle of St. Mellan’s in the GU16S final. Louise put on a convincing display winning in two straight games to take the county.
Please check with your coach or notice board as there will be a break from this week unless otherwise mentioned to juveniles for the holidays. Merry Christmas to all players and coaches for the festive season.
The Preliminary round of Senior Fixtures have finished up. The county senior competitions are starting the first week of January. All players should have got an email regarding their grades. If someone has not please refer to the Monaghan Harps Facebook page for details.
