Jackpot for Sunday, October 7 is €4,100 and Helen and John Hahessy are on duty. Lotto draw takes place in our clubhouse every Sunday night. All welcome. Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which plays a critical role in our club’s funding. We ask all club members to continue to promote our Lotto as much as possible.

Fun Day: Our Family Fun Day took place in glorious conditions at Gavan Duffy Park last Saturday (September 29). After the final Saturday-morning training session of the year, we had the usual busy fun morning of races and skill exhibitions, which were greatly enjoyed by young and old alike. Also in a very busy few hours, our young juveniles were presented with medals by Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh and Neil McAdam and our new stand was blessed by Fr. Stephen Duffy and officially opened by Monaghan Rose Hannah Mooney and club officials. ‘Leo the Lion’ then joined with Hugh Coyle and other club members to launch the fourth annual Great Harps Balloon Race to great excitement. Thanks to everyone for their support of our ‘Sponsor a Seat’ fundraiser and the Balloon Race. Well done to Cillian Condra, who won the first prize for selling the most balloons. Anyone who finds a balloon and code is asked to email Pro.monaghanharps.monaghan@gaa.ie (closing date: November 1). Please make sure that any outstanding balloon cards are returned to Jimmy Croarkin ASAP. All support is appreciated for these important fundraisers for the continued development of our facilities. Thanks and well done to everyone involved on the day and also to all the Saturday-morning coaches and organisers for their efforts this year.

Gavan Duffy Park: We hosted the Mallon’s Foods U-17 FC Division Three Final between Clontibret and Truagh last Sunday. Next up Gavan Duffy Park is the Maguire International MFC Division Two Final Replay between Doohamlet v Seán McDermotts on Saturday week, October 13.

Seniors: We fell to a disappointing defeat away to Inniskeen in the Shoe City Senior Football League last Saturday. We started brightly with a Liam Hahessy goal and points from Éimhín Morahan and Conor and Michael Galligan, but Inniskeen gradually got on top and their accurate finishing gave them a 0-14 to 1-3 lead by the end of the first half. Points by Éimhín, Shane McMahon and first-time SFL starter Conor McCrystal were all we could manage in the second half as Inniskeen ran out 2-18 to 1-7 winners to claim the five points on offer. Unfortunately, this result confirms our relegation to Intermediate football for 2019 with two games still remaining.

Team and scorers: Dylan McAree; Kevin Loughran, Nicholas Scott (Capt.), Aidan Burns; Conor Galligan (0-1), Gareth Treanor, Aodhán Óg McAnespie; Stephen Driver, Neil McAdam; Liam Hahessy (1-0), Éimhín Morahan (0-2, 1f), Dylan McKenna; Conor McCrystal (0-2), Michael Galligan (0-1), Francis Lynch.

Subs: Thomas Croarkin for Burns (35 mins), Shane McMahon (0-1) for McCrystal (41), Niall McManus for McKenna, Niall Ward for Hahessy (both 47), Nathan O’Donoghue for Lynch (50), Mustafa Gamal for McAnespie (black card, 52), C McCrystal for Morahan (black card, 53).

Our penultimate league game against Castleblayney is now to be played under lights in Blayney tonight (Friday) at 8.30pm.

U-17: Our next scheduled U-17 league game is away to Inniskeen on Sunday week, October 14.

Clubhouse: The Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 2543511 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

Hurling: Our U-15 squad fell short in last Tuesday’s shield final against East Cavan Gaels. Well done to the players and management for their efforts.
