Monaghan Coaching & Games 3rd/4th class Go Games Football & Hurling Blitz

Monaghan Coaching & Games organised a Gaelic Football & Hurling blitz on Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th October in Entekra Centre of Excellence, Cloghan. We had 26 schools in attendance over the 2 days with over 200 boys & girls playing football & hurling.  The blitz took place on both days from 11-1:30pm with the rain thankfully staying off during this time. The blitz catered for boys & girls in 3rd and 4th class in County Monaghan.

Each school played a minimum 3 football games. Also, schools who choose to play hurling also got 3 games. Each game lasted 21 minutes with 2 periods of 8 minutes and one middle period of 5 minutes. The middle period is aimed for the boys and girls to use their weak side. Points & goals were worth 1 score. The matches were 2 touch with the emphasis on teamplay & moving the ball. The blitz was non-competitive to promote our game in a healthy environment with focus on participation and enjoyment. Also, it was a great chance for the boys and girls to get to play football & hurling in the Monaghan GAA Training Grounds over the 2 days.

We would like to say a huge thanks to the schools who attended and made the blitzes a huge success. Also, to St Macartan’s and Our Lady’s TY’S who refereed over the 2 days & to the teachers and assistants who helped out on the day organising their teams and managing the teams.

The schools in attendance where Urbleshanny, Monaghan Boys, Monaghan GNS Castleblayney GNS, Castleblayney BNS, Latton NS, Scoil Eanna Ballybay, Tydavnet Ns , Latnamard Ns, Mullaghrafferty, Clones NS, Gaelscoil Ultain, Gaelscoil Lorgan, Knockconan Ns, Edenmore Ns, Garron, Annyalla Ns, Glaslough Ns, Corracrin Ns, Corcaghan Ns, Corduff Ns, Killeevan Ns, Blackstaff Ns, Doohamlet NS, Loughmourne, Oram NS.

We also delivered the Hurling Skills Competition which was won by Kealan Morgan (Annyalla) & Christian Traynor (Blayney Boys). A member of the coaching staff will be in after Halloween to present the winners with their prizes.

Unfortunately we did not get doing our proposed football skills competition. We will re-schedule for a later date and keep in touch. We will be in contact with schools in the near future about upcoming initiatives before Christmas. Photo’s below are from the blitzes over the 2 days.

Any enquiries regarding upcoming blitzes, initiatives regarding primary schools please contact Rory Beggan on 087-3528274 or rory.beggan.gda.monaghan@gaa.ie
