Gavan Duffy Park: We host the Mallon’s Foods U-17 FC Division Three Final between Clontibret v Truagh this Sunday at 12 noon. All help appreciated.

Seniors: We resumed our Shoe City Senior Football League campaign with an away game against Truagh last Saturday. We started brightly with points from Éimhín Morahan, Liam Hahessy, Neil McAdam and Shane Smyth, but the concession of goals proved to be our downfall in a first half that ended with Truagh leading by 3-6 to 0-8. A Liam Hahessy goal brought us back within four points going into the last 20 minutes, only for Truagh to hit the next six scores. Nicholas Scott pulled a goal back and Gareth Treanor and Michael Galligan added points, but another soft goal helped Truagh finish well clear at 4-19 to 2-12.

Team and scorers: Emmett McArdle; Thomas Croarkin, Nicholas Scott (Capt., 1-0), Niall Ward; Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Conor Galligan, Kevin Loughran; Stephen Driver, Dylan McKenna; Francis Lynch, Éimhín Morahan (0-5, 1f), Gareth Treanor (0-1); Liam Hahessy (1-3, 0-1f), Shane Smyth (0-1), Neil McAdam (0-1f).

Subs: Michael Galligan (0-1) for Lynch (40 mins), Niall McManus for Croarkin (49), Conor McCrystal for Morahan (51).

We are away to Inniskeen in another ‘five-point’ fixture this Saturday at 5.30pm. All support welcome.

U-17: Our U-17s continued their winning league run at home to Donaghmoyne last Sunday. A Dylan Ballantine ’45 and goals by Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh and Lochlainn Power helped get our lads off to a flying start and with Ógie adding a brace to complete his hat-trick by the 20-minute mark, it was 4-3 to 1-4 at half-time. Mujtaba Gamal came on to add a brace of goals after the restart and with Ógie, Anann Connor, Nathan Lavery and Dean Doherty also among the scorers, our lads sealed a high-scoring win.

Team and scorers: Daragh Croarkin; Cathal Nally, Killian Conlon, Conor Devlin; Oisín Fagan, Andrew Lyden, Stephen Ward; Lorcan O’Rourke, Lochlainn Power (1-1, 1-0 pen); Dean Doherty (0-2), Dylan Ballantine (0-1, ‘45), James McKenny; Terence McDonald (0-1), Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (4-1), Anann Connor (2-0).

Subs used: Mujtaba Gamal (2-0), Nathan Lavery (0-1), Jamie McCarron, Liam Conway.

Our next scheduled U-17 league game is not until October 14.

U-11: Our U-11s claimed silverware in Oram’s invitational tournament last Sunday. Well done to all involved. This is a fitting conclusion to a busy, competitive campaign for this group, who will conclude their year this Saturday, September 29.

Clubhouse: The Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 2543511 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

Hurling: Our U-15 squad travelled to Carrickmacross last Thursday to contest the shield semi-final of the league. After conceding an early goal, the Harps lads rallied with a point from Aidan McKenna and a Liam Conway goal. With the Harps now in front, the game became nip and tuck throughout with neither team gaining dominance. Further scores from Shane Griffin kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Harps. A late Carrick goal looked to have seen them through to the final as victors, but the Harps weren’t finished and ensured they had the last say. A Liam Conway free in injury time was played to Aidan McKenna whose shot was well saved but subsequently emphatically turned to goal by Luke McManus to put the Harps into the final on a 4-2 to 3-6 scoreline. The final against East Cavan Gaels was played on Tuesday and a report will be posted on the club Twitter and Facebook account.
