Tyholland just held on in a thrilling IFC opener against Currin at Gavan Duffy Park, Monaghan last Sunday. Tyholland led from start to finish and were six points clear at the break after quick-fire goals by Ryan McKenna and Brian McArdle, but they were left hanging on towards the end after a Currin rally inspired by Jack McCarron, who hit 2-5 of his 2-7 tally from play. Shane Treanor and Dermot Coyle landed ten points between them (seven from frees) to help Tyholland make a winning start.

Part two of Sunday’s IFC preliminary-round double-bill saw Blackhill put their league form aside to run out impressive winners in their mid-Monaghan derby against Toome. Blackhill went into this game bottom of the league, but with eight scorers, they dominated here, spurred on by first-half goals from Paul Finnegan and Anthony Courtney.
