SCOTSTOWN CLAIM RESERVE DIVISION 1A TITLE

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A Final

Scotstown 2-16 Clontibret 1-10

A more tidy and polished performance by Scotstown earned them the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A title against Clontibret on Saturday evening in Tyholland.

Played in wet conditions, the Blues added the League title with the Reserve Championship title they won last month in Truagh, and had some stellar performances throughout.

Clontibret were actually the ones to make the better start, and they done so courtesy of a goal by Dean McDonnell after six minutes, to put his side 1-1 to 0-1 ahead.

Scotstown steadied themselves though and points by Francis Maguire, Ruairi Sheehan and Orin Heaphey brought them level at the quarter hour mark.

Both teams traded scores before Scotstown opened up a two point lead, before they raised their first green flag of the night, thanks to Orin Heaphey.

Despite trailing 1-8 to 1-3 at this stage, Clontibret hit the next three points. They came from Francis Hughes, Jack Gormley, and a Darragh Hughes free, to leave the scores 1-8 to 1-6 in favour of Scotstown after 25 minutes.

Orin Heaphey tagged on another point for Scotstown to leave them three clear at half time, 1-9 to 1-6.

Both sides split the uprights at the start of the second half, and the gap remained at three points with 15 minutes left.

It was at this stage though that Scotstown started to turn the screw. Points by Jason Carey,  Jamie McCarey and Ruairi Sheehan put Scotstown into a five point lead with as many minutes left, despite Clontibret raising white flags through Darragh Hughes and Eoin McGuigan among others.

Then came the knock-out punch. A neat one-two with Orin Heaphey put Ryan O’Toole through on goal, and he buried the ball in the corner of the Clontibret net, to put Scotstown eight points clear.

A final effort over the bar from Ruairi Sheehan sealed a nine point win and the Reserve double for Scotstown, who now turn their attention to the Senior Championship.
