Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which plays a critical role in our club’s funding. We ask all club members to continue to promote our Lotto as much as possible.

Darkness into Light: We were proud to host Electric Ireland Darkness into Light Monaghan for the fifth time in the early hours of last Saturday morning, May 12. Well over 2,000 people took part in the ever-growing fundraiser for Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of self-harm/suicide. There was a special atmosphere throughout the 5km route on a cold but dry morning. Thanks and credit is due to all our club members and all the volunteers who helped out at the event, which was a great community effort. Well done to everyone involved in preparing for or stewarding on the morning, to all who helped out at the pre-registration and t-shirt collection points, all sponsors and everyone who promoted the event. We are grateful to An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence & Monaghan Municipal District Council for their help in organising the walk. See photos and report elsewhere. We will arrange the planting of this year’s Memory Tree in the next few weeks.

Golf Classic: The 2018 Monaghan Harps GAA Club Golf Classic, sponsored by Soleire Electrical, will take place Rossmore Golf Club on Friday, June 8. To enter a team costs €200 and tee and green sponsorships are available at €100 each. Contact Fergus Coyle (086 8502015), Harry Dwyer (086 2400120), John Hahessy (086 1251615), Séamus McManus (086 8167928) or Kevin Treanor (086 2591411) for more information.

Seniors: An understrength team fell to a disappointing defeat away to Carrickmacross in the Shoe City Senior Football League last Sunday. Two points from Michael Galligan were all we could manage in the first half, while Éimhín Morahan, Dylan McKenna, Francis Lynch and Niall Treanor were on target in the second half of a game where we were always playing catch-up after a storming start by the hosts.

Team and scorers: Emmett McArdle; Jamie Shields, Kevin Loughran, Thomas Croarkin; Gareth Treanor, Nicholas Scott (Capt.), Niall Hahessy; Dylan McKenna (0-1), Aodhán Óg McAnespie; Michael Galligan (0-2, 1f), Stephen Driver, Éimhín Morahan (0-2f); Niall Ward, Shane Coyle, Francis Lynch (0-1).

Subs: Niall Treanor (0-1) for Coyle (H-T), Shane McMahon for Driver (42 mins), Niall McManus for Ward (45), Conor Forde for Galligan (inj., 49), Nathan O’Donoghue for Shields, Jason McHugh for Lynch (both 56).

Reserves: We won at home to Emyvale in the Platinum Tanks RFL Division 1B last Wednesday. A goal from Conor Forde and points by the likes of Conor McCrystal and Shane Coyle had us in front at the end of a closely-contested first half. Jason McHugh and Shane kept us ahead after the restart, while further goals from Francis Lynch and Conor Duffy helped us secure the win on a scoreline of 3-10 to 0-11.

Team: Dylan McAree; Jamie Shields, John Mulligan (Capt.), Niall Ward; Conor Forde, Thomas Croarkin, Niall Treanor; Dylan McKenna, Peter Coyle; Conor McCrystal, Francis Lynch, Conor Duffy; Colm Shalvey, Shane Coyle, Jason McHugh.

Subs: Turlough Clerkin for Mulligan (inj.), Morgan McDonagh for Duffy (inj.).
