Galway 0-17 Monaghan 1-10 12/3/18
Monaghan’s three-game winning run in the Allianz NFL came to an end against unbeaten Galway at Pearse Stadium on Sunday. Monaghan competed well against the breeze in the first half, with scores from Conor McManus, Jack McCarron and the returning Kieran Hughes helping them lead by 0-7 to 0-5, but the sending-off of Fintan Kelly left the visitors’ 14 men facing a tough task in the second period. Galway gradually gained the upper hand, with eight of the hosts’ players getting on the scoresheet, led by free-taker Barry McHugh and inspirational captain Damien Comer. Hughes got a goal back for Monaghan in added time, but with Ruairí Lavelle denying sub Owen Duffy moments later, Galway held on for a fifth straight win. Monaghan host Donegal in Clones on Sunday.
