Seniors: We had a hard-earned 2-10 to 1-10 win away to Magheracloone in our final County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League group game last Sunday. Points by Stephen Driver, Niall and Dónal Hahessy and Nicholas Treanor moved us four clear early on, although Magheracloone hit back with a goal. Stephen and Nicholas both found the net before half-time to see us change ends ahead by 2-6 to 1-6 and we maintained a narrow lead through to the end, with Dónal, Fearghal McMahon and Conor Galligan on target. We will host Castleblayney in the semi-finals, due to be played on Sunday week (November 6).

Schools: Well done to all our young players involved in the Cumann na mBunscol county finals in Castleblayney last Saturday. The St. Mary’s Boys School team regained the Frank McGinn Cup, putting a slow start behind them to defeat Castleblayney in the Division One Final. Harps players hit all 5-7 of the St. Mary’s total, with the club represented by Ethan Ballantine, Jordan Crampton, Shea Swift, Senan Cudden, Seán Callan (2-2), Josh Kelly (0-1), Cian Bradley (2-1), Jake McConnon (1-0), Gary Devlin, Jack Lynch (0-1), Karol Parszywka, Liam McCabe, Patrick Dooley-Duffy, Fergal Magee and joint-captains Luke McManus (0-2) and Michael McMorrow. There was no luck in the Division Two Final for the Gaelscoil Ultain team, who fell short against strong opponents Scoil Rois, Carrickmacross. The Harps players involved were Jack Corrigan, Dáire Conlon, Shane Moran, Mark Clerkin, Eoin O’Hanlon, Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Shay Kelly, Oisín Treanor, Max Mallen, Oisín Reilly, Eoin McCleary and Mark Corrigan. There were also Harps múinteoirí on the sidelines, namely Conor Forde and Orla Whelan with St. Mary’s; Joe Ó Gallchóir (Gaelscoil Ultain) and Michael Buckley (Knockconan NS).

Clubhouse photos: Over the next few weeks, Pádraig Callan and Damien Morgan will be putting pictures back up in the clubhouse. If anyone has any Harps photos that they would like on the wall, please provide a copy (A4, with no frame) to Pádraig or Damien.

Congratulations: To Conor McCrystal and the Monaghan U-16 development squad, who retained the Buncrana Cup in last Sunday’s final replay.

Know Your Sport: After Dundalk’s Airtricity League win, there are five joint-leaders in our sports prediction competition. Paul Fay, Adrian Gunn, Hugh Moyna, Jim Fanning and Jonathan Browne all have 13 points, with the Formula 1 Championship the only category yet to be completed.

Gavan Duffy Park: The refurbished Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 4515206 for more information. Minors: We took on Carrickmacross last Saturday in the Championship final replay. On a day where we never got going, we were beaten in the end by the better team. In a fiercely-contested affair in Clontibret, Carrick settled the better and were never headed throughout. Despite our slow start we went in just two points down at half-time (1-4 to 0-9) and may consider ourselves unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty that may even have resulted in a Harps lead. We got it back to all-square midway through the second half. However, frees were going to be the winning and losing of this match, and with Carrick scoring 12 of their 17 points from a dead ball, it’s fair to say we were punished dearly for any indiscipline. Carrick finished the stronger of the two teams to see themselves over the line on a 1-9 to 0-17 scoreline. Congrats to Carrick and well done to our lads on a very spirited effort on an understandably frustrating day. There’ll be plenty other days for us and an Ulster league semi-final away to Lisbellaw awaits. Onwards and upwards. Na Cláirsigh Abú!

Squad: Cillian Sherry; Conor Duffy, Dylan McAree, Anthony Greenan; Emmet Walshe, Cathal Power (0-6), Tommy Croarkin; Aidan Burns (1-1), Niall McManus (0-1); Mark Murphy, Remy McKenna (0-1), Nathan O’Donoghue; Stefan McQuaid, Kieran McQuaid, Lochlainn Power; Conor McCrystal for S McQuaid, Luke Mulligan for O’Donoghue, Seán Conway for Walshe, John Lowry, Conor Devlin.
