Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes, 24th October

Senior Men: We entered the last round of league games last Sunday knowing that a win would guarantee our place in this year’s League Semi Finals, while Carrick also needed to secure two points in an effort to avoid the drop to Intermediate ranks for 2017. The Faughs started the game in a whirl wind fashion with Dermot Malone and Ciaran Hanratty scoring 1-1 each within the opening five minutes before Carrick responded with a point of their own. The Faughs continued to play some fine football with further scores from Malone, Hanratty , the Mc Elroy brothers Brendan and Martin as well as Mark Treanor to give the famous green and gold a commanding half time lead of: Faughs 2-9 Carrick 0-5. The lads started well after the break adding three further points before a penalty for Carrick give them some glimmer of hope of getting something from the game but the Faughs responded well with three points to kill off the contest. Final Score Faughs 2-19 Carrick 1-08. The result means that we now have an away semi final against Monaghan Harps the date and time have yet to fixed, in the other Semi Final Ballybay will take on Truagh.

Cumann na mBunscol: Last Saturday saw the finals of Cumann na mBunscol take place in St Marys Park, the Boy school played in the Division 1 Final where they took on Monaghan Boy School, in the first quarter they played really well but couldn’t convert their chances on the scoreboard, the second quarter saw Monaghan draw level before they sneaked ahead in the third quarter and despite a great effort from the boys they couldn’t close the gap in the final quarter as Monaghan ran out winners by eight points.

Club Development Plan: With the playing season now nearly completed, the Clubs attention has reverted back to the finalisation of the Club Development Plan, at this stage all the draft sections are complete with final sign off expected to be completed by 31st of October. Well Done: This week well done goes out to the Monaghan Under 16 Squad who won their third consecutive Buncrana Cup last Sunday when they defeated Derry on a score line of Monaghan 2-11 Derry 1-12, well done to the three Faughs Players Craig Callan, Kian O’Connor and Francis McGeough who all played an instrumental role right throughout the year.
