Seniors: We won away to Scotstown in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League last Saturday. 1-1 by Fearghal McMahon, a Neil McAdam goal and a point from Nicholas Treanor got us off to a good start and although Scotstown grew into the game, points by Dónal Hahessy and Nicholas and another goal from Fearghal had us 3-5 to 0-5 clear at half-time. Dean Fanning found the net after the restart and with Gary White joining Dónal and Fearghal on the scoresheet, we stayed in front to secure a 4-9 to 1-10 win. We have another important game away to Truagh this Sunday, with a 12.30pm throw-in.

Team and scorers: Ashley White; David Lowry, Nicholas Scott, Niall Hahessy; Kevin Loughran, Conor Galligan (Capt.), Michael Galligan; Stephen Driver, Gary White (0-1); Nicholas Treanor (0-2, 1f), Shane Smyth, Dean Fanning (1-0); Dónal Hahessy (0-4, 2f), Neil McAdam (1-0), Fearghal McMahon (2-2).

Subs: Gareth Treanor for Lowry (14), Éimhín Morahan for McMahon (41), F McMahon for Scott (inj., 45), D Lowry for M Galligan (inj., 48).

Fun Day: Our Family Fun Day is set to take place at Gavan Duffy Park on Saturday week, October 1, including the return of the popular ‘Great Harps Balloon Race’, which is the club’s main fundraiser of 2016. Cards are available now and all club members are urged to make sure they get theirs from Jimmy Croarkin (087 1249635) and that full cards are returned as soon as possible. The prizes are iPads for the owner of the balloon found furthest away and the seller of the most balloons, while juveniles with a full card will receive a new Harps O’Neills training top.

U-11: Our U-11s won the Shield at Emyvale’s BC Tournament last Saturday. A draw with Drumhowan, a narrow loss to Rock (Tyrone) and a win over Clones in the group stage saw our lads just miss out on a place in the Cup section. Instead, we progressed to the knock-out stage of the Shield, which started with comfortable wins over Augher (Tyrone) and Tyholland. The semi-final was against Truagh, where points by Senan Cudden, Eoin O’Hanlon and Jack Lynch had our lads level at half-time. Senan, Eoin, Cian Bradley, Ethan Ballantine and Fionán Ó Gallchóir were all on target in the second half to earn the Harps a 0-10 to 0-6 win. Another meeting with Clones was next up in the Shield Final, where Jack, Fionán, Cian and Ethan were our scorers in a tight first half that ended 0-4 to 0-3. Seán Callan, Fionán and Eoin helped our lads pull away, only for Clones to rally and level it at 0-8 apiece. The game went to extra-time, where our only score came from Fionán, leaving the sides still deadlocked (0-9 each), meaning the game would be decided by the next score. Eoin O’Hanlon stepped up with the winning point to make the final score 0-10 to 0-9 in our favour. Well done to the players and mentors. The panel was: Ethan Ballantine, Cian Bradley, Seán Callan, Mark Clerkin, Dáire Conlon, Morgan Coyle, Senan Cudden, Jack Lynch, Shane Moran, Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Eoin O’Hanlon, Oisín Reilly.

U-10: The upcoming Mick Farrell Memorial Tournament at Gavan Duffy Park will take place during our Fun Day on Saturday week, October 1. We are due to be joined by U-10 football teams from counties Monaghan, Cavan, Tyrone, Antrim and Dublin. Keep an eye on club notes and online for more details. Well done to all who took part last Saturday in a tournament in Aghagallon, Co Antrim and a challenge match at home to Scotstown.

All-Ireland final: Thanks to everyone who joined us in our clubhouse for the excitement of the All-Ireland football final last Sunday and thanks in particular to the young musicians who played at half-time. The club’s draw for All-Ireland final tickets was won by Paddy Donnelly, Val Forde and Liam McNelis.
