Previews (July 29-August 2)

July 29th, 2016

On an otherwise quiet weekend, the U-21 football finals take centre stage on Friday.

Under-21 Football Division One Final

Donaghmoyne v Magheracloone, Friday, 7.30, Killanny

Donaghmoyne and Magheracloone contest the Under-21 Division One Final in Killanny on Friday evening.

Donaghmoyne are attempting to build on back-to-back minor Division One doubles and after getting a walkover from Killanny at the quarter-final stage, they won a well-contested derby semi-final away to Carrickmacross. Magheracloone, who lost the 2014 MFC Final, have had good wins over Truagh and Monaghan Harps.

Donaghmoyne should be able to call on the likes of Mikey Murnaghan, David Garland, Stephen Finnegan, Ronan McDonald and Niall Keenan, while Allan Kieran, Alan McCahey, Paudie McMahon and Paul McArdle are key players for Magheracloone.

Under-21 Football Division Two Final

Latton v Truagh, Friday, 7.30, Scotstown

Also on Friday, Latton and Truagh meet in the U-21 Division Two decider.

Both teams narrowly lost high-scoring games in Division One, with Truagh edged out by Magheracloone and Latton falling just short against Carrickmacross. Truagh bounced back with a comprehensive win over Aughnamullen, while Latton had a hard-earned Division Two semi-final victory in Emyvale.

Adam and Aaron Treanor, Niall Rooney, Christopher McAnenly and Thomas O’Brien should be to the fore for Truagh while Stephen McCabe, James McElroy and Thomas and Conor Lynch could be among the main men for Latton.

There are two Maguire Transport Minor Football Championship Division Two quarter-final replays on Tuesday evening: Carrickmacross v Killanny and Na Mullaí Sarsfields v Inniskeen.

Otherwise, the only action this week is in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg. Under-14 and Under-12 Football Leagues.
