Thanks to all competitors, to organisers Harry Dwyer, Kevin Treanor, Fergus Coyle and Séamus McManus, to the staff of Rossmore and to all businesses who sponsored a tee or green. Particular thanks go to main sponsor Barry Healy & Company Solicitors. We were proud to present the Ollie Clerkin Cup to the winning team of Terry and Paul Gilsenan, Dick Reidy and Conor McCaughey, with thanks to the Clerkin family. More details next week.

Seniors: Our senior footballers lost by 0-14 to 1-7 away to Ballybay in difficult conditions last Friday evening. Points by Liam Hahessy (two) and Fearghal McMahon were all we had to show for our efforts in a difficult first half that ended with us trailing by 0-8 to 0-3, but a point by Fearghal and a goal from Paddy Connolly closed the gap after the restart. Ballybay maintained a narrow lead throughout the second half and points from Liam and Stephen Driver weren’t enough for us to salvage a result. Our next SFL game is at home to Magheracloone on Sunday week, June 26.

Team and scorers: Cónall McKenna; Nicholas Scott, Stephen Driver (0-1), Niall Hahessy; Michael Galligan, David Hughes, Kevin Loughran; Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Gary White; Conor Galligan (Capt.), Fearghal McMahon (0-2), Dean Fanning; Liam Hahessy (0-4, 3f), Neil McAdam, Nicholas Treanor.

Subs: Shane Smyth for Fanning (inj., 18 mins), Paddy Connolly (1-0) for McAnespie (black card, 30).

Reserves: We lost at home to Carrickmacross in the RFL Division Three last Wednesday. A much-changed team competed well in the first half, only for missed chances and the concession of a couple of soft goals to see us go in trailing by 2-8 to 0-6. The second half followed a similar pattern, as we were unable to make our goal chances count and Carrick pulled away inside the final quarter.

Team and scorers: Darragh Hannon; Niall McManus, Turlough Clerkin, Niall Ward; Niall Greenan (0-1), Robbie Moyna (Capt., 0-2), Aidan Burns; Francis Lynch (0-1), Paul Rushe (0-1); Jamie Shields, Conor Duffy, Colm Shalvey (0-2); Cónall McKenna (0-2), Ben Kearns-Flynn, Kyle O’Leary.

Subs used: Dónal McCarthy (0-1), David Carey, Nathan O’Donoghue, Marc Brennan, John Treanor, Conor O’Neill.

There were also a number of changes for Sunday’s Division 1A game at home to Truagh. Some scores by Éimhín Morahan kept us in touch in the first half, at the end of which we trailed by 0-6 to 0-3, but Truagh found the net after the restart to put daylight between the teams. Aodhán Óg McAnespie and Francis Lynch kicked points for us, but Truagh ran out 2-11 to 0-7 winners.

Team: Darragh Hannon; Paul Smyth, Robbie Moyna, Ahmed Gamal; Mustafa Gamal, Niall Treanor, Conor Forde; Éimhín Morahan, Aodhán Óg McAnespie; Francis Lynch, Cónall McKenna, Niall Greenan; John Treanor, Paddy Connolly, Colm Shalvey.

Subs: David Carey for Connolly (inj.), Daniel Kelly for Morahan (inj.).

We are at home to Latton in Division 1A this Sunday.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team had a good win at home to Inniskeen last Thursday. With Eoghan McGinnity making a welcome return from injury and being joined on the scoresheet by Dylan Ballantine, Brian McAteer, Josh Maguire, Dean Doherty, Terence McDonald and Nathan Lavery, we produced an excellent first-half performance to take a commanding lead. Inniskeen rallied in the second half, but Shay Cooney, Dean, Josh and Nathan took our tally to an impressive 6-13 and our defenders, including James Curley making his first start at this level, worked hard at the other end.

Team and scorers: Daragh Croarkin; Cathal Nally, James McKenny; Kevin Moran, Tiarnán O’Rourke, James Curley; Dylan Ballantine (Capt., 1-0), Brian McAteer (1-0); Josh Maguire (1-3), Dean Doherty (0-2f), Terence McDonald (0-2); Nathan Lavery (2-1), Eoghan McGinnity (0-4, 1f).

Subs used: Shay Cooney (1-1), Jake Power, Mike Bradley, Adam McBride.

Our Division Five championship semi-final in Carrickmacross is now due to be played on Monday evening at 7pm.

U-12: Our two Under-12 teams showed great spirit to win closely-contested home games last Saturday.

Our Division One team started things off with a fine contest against Clontibret. A Luke McManus goal and points from Fionán Ó Gallchóir and Shea Swift got our lads up and running, but Clontibret rallied strongly to edge ahead. Fionán and Jake McConnon responded for the Harps and Luke added a brace of goals, but the scores were still level at half-time (3-5 to 2-8). Clontibret made the better start to the second half and it took some good scores from Luke, Fionán and Shea to keep our lads in touch. The visitors still led until the closing minutes, but there was still time for goals by Luke and Seán Callan to give our lads a 5-10 to 3-14 win.

Team and scorers: Ethan Ballantine; Patrick Dooley-Duffy, Dáire Conlon; Seán Callan (1-0), Cian Bradley; Scarlett Herron, Michael McMorrow; Luke McManus (4-3, 0-3 ‘45s), Jake McConnon (0-1f); Shea Swift (0-2, 1f), Fionán Ó Gallchóir (0-4, 1f).

Subs used: Josh Kelly, Gary Devlin, Jack Lynch, Liam McCabe, Aidan Cunningham, Oisín Treanor, Mark Clerkin, Eoin McCleary, Morgan Coyle, Shane Moran, Jordan Crampton, Max Mallen, Gregory O’Connell, Aidan McGeough.

The Division Five game against Donaghmoyne followed, where our lads got off to a slow start, allowing Donaghmoyne to race into a big lead. The Harps worked their way into the game, with a Cian Bradley point and an Ethan Ballantine goal scant reward for their dominance in the minutes before half-time, by which stage the score was 3-3 to 1-1. Max Mallen, Oisín Treanor and Gary Devlin were among the scores in the middle period and the Harps took over in the final 20 minutes. Morgan Coyle, Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Cian, Mark Clerkin and Michael McMorrow were all on target in the second half to edge us ahead and although Donaghmoyne hit back with a goal against the run of play, points from Oisín Treanor, Morgan and Fionán saw us win by the narrowest of margins (2-10 to 4-3) in an exciting finish.

Team and scorers: Michael McMorrow (0-1); Max Mallen, Jordan Crampton; Gary Devlin, Mark Clerkin (0-1); Jack Lynch, Ethan Ballantine (1-0); Aidan McGeough, Morgan Coyle (0-2, 1f); Oisín Treanor (0-1), Liam McCabe.

Subs used: Fionán Ó Gallchóir (1-2), Cian Bradley (0-3), Shane Moran, Gregory O’Connell, Eoin McCleary, Aidan Cunningham.

Both teams are away to Carrickmacross on Friday: Division One at 7, Division Five at 8.15.

U-12s: The U-12 league competition got underway on Monday last with an away trip to Inniskeen for Jim and his charges. An excellent performance by the whole squad led to a 0-21 to 0-2 win, with Declan McKenna, Cian Bradley, Oisín Connolly, Seán Callan, Nicholas Sherlock and Luke McManus standing out in particular. Well done to the whole squad. Upcoming fixtures: Monday, June 20 v Keady (H), June 27 v Cootehill (A), July 4 v Castleblayney (H), 11th v Clontibret (A), 18th v Truagh (H), 25th v Carrickmacross (H).

U-14s: We play Truagh in the League Shield Final with the venue and time yet to be confirmed. Keep an eye on the Monaghan Harps Hurling Facebook page for updates.

Senior: A young squad with many involved in state examinations along with a number of injuries meant that we had to concede last week’s fixture against Craobh Rua. Next up for the senior squad is a home match against Clontibret on Thursday, June 23 at 8pm.
