Carrick Hurling look back on Féile
FEILE 2016
On Friday morning 17th June Carrick  U14 parents said goodbye to their boys as the bus pulled out of Emmet Centre around 12-30 for the journey to Moneygall for Feile 2016, On arrival at St. Flannan’s Park Moneygall  there were cheers inside and out of the bus with flags, banners and posters to welcome  all the Farney visitors. The weekend was on. First game with Loughmore / Castleiney Tipperary  at 4-45, where GAA President Mr Aogan O Fearghail met the lads with a welcome note and few tips on the game. Then it was Lisgoold Cork at 5-45.Both games did not go Carrick’s way, with 15 mins a half scores came fast with some wonderful first touches on both sides.
Next up was fun skills challenges with Carrickmacross and the host team – Moneygall / Clonakenny  as both teams took part in penalty shots, side line cuts, through the tire and speed shots where our lads stood the test. Meanwhile the host parents had the B B Q up and running as the beautiful smell filled the air, upstairs on the club wall hung a picture of Carrickmacross Comagie Feile Na nGael 1974 team who won the best dressed team award, beside it was the list of lads that arrived there for the Feile Na nGael  in 1973.Now it was time for the lads to head home with their host families for the weekend and day one was near over.
Saturday morning game was at 10-30 with host team Moneygall / Clonakenny Tipperary. This was the lads best game  coming within two points of a strong Tipperary side who won all their group games and earned themselves a semi final spot in the cup. Back on the bus again it was off to Drumbane for a 2-30 game with Cootehill, not before stopping in Templemore for snacks and a stroll in the park. After the game  Carrick made the journey back to their home for the weekend. Even with no silverware there were smiles on all players as they mixed, chatted, laughed and sang along. After a few more stories and laughs it was into Plaza Obama for another sit down meal in a room where President Obama once sat. Then it was the chairperson’s turn to take the floor. After a short speech and presentation to each club,  the players and parents mixed together for  the last night of entertainment,
Sunday morning was mix of good byes, laughs, sad for some and facebook contact. Then it was back on the road with  one more stop at Applegreen and straight to Emmett park where parents pick up their boys. Results may not be what the club would have liked on the field but off the field it could not have been better. Overall it was a weekend that never will be forgotten,
The club would like to thank the players, every one of them for the way they behaved on and off the pitch. Míle buíochas to all parents that took time out to travel down, support and even clap the lads coming off the pitch after what has to be one of the greatest games they played,  Thanks also to Pat Cassidy [Platinum Tanks] main sponsor, all  those who supported the quiz night, water dunk challenge on bank holiday weekend and everyone that gave anything towards the trip. Great credit  also to the committee members who had all in order, the management team, Tommy Gernon [Coolderry Coaches] and of course our host team, parents, committee members and  the community of Moneygall / Clonakenny.
