Lidl Ladies National Football League Division One

Mayo v Monaghan, Sunday, 2.00, Ballina

A testing NFL campaign for Monaghan’s ladies won’t get any easier when they travel to high-flying Mayo on Sunday.

Monaghan followed defeats against Galway, Armagh and Dublin by winning their local derby against Tyrone, before losing out to Munster’s big two of Cork and Kerry. Mayo, by contrast, have won all six of their games by an average margin of six points.

Monaghan are without some key players, but should still be able to call on others such as Cora and Sharon Courtney, Gráinne McNally, Therese Scott, the McAnespies and Ellen McCarron. Cora Staunton is as important as ever for Mayo, along with the likes of Sarah Rowe, Aileen Gilroy, Fiona McHale and Yvonne Byrne.

County Monaghan Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League holders Scotstown travel to Doohamlet on Saturday, while Truagh have home advantage against Latton, as do Ballybay in a derby against Clontibret. Carrickmacross host Monaghan Harps and Castleblayney go to Magheracloone.

Inniskeen host Aughnamullen in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League on Friday night, with the other four games down for decision on Saturday. Donaghmoyne and Tyholland will both be looking to build on opening-round wins when they meet, while Killanny make the long journey to Currin, Cremartin take on Corduff and Emyvale host Rockcorry.

There is a derby between Scotstown and Seán McDermotts in the Eurotech Junior Football League on Sunday, while Drumhowan are at home to JFL newcomers Corduff, Aghabog play Blackhill, Clones travel to Toome and Oram are up against Killeevan.

The Minor Football Leagues also continue this week. One game in each division goes ahead on Sunday; namely Clontibret v Truagh, Carrickmacross v Inniskeen and Latton v Doohamlet. Tuesday’s Division One fixtures are Clontibret v Magheracloone, Monaghan Harps v Truagh and St. Patrick’s v Scotstown, while in Division Two, it’s Carrickmacross v Donaghmoyne, Clann na nGael v Castleblayney, Clones v Emyvale, Inniskeen v Killanny and Na Mullaí Sarsfields v Patrick Emmets. Cremartin, Doohamlet and Rockcorry have home advantage against Seán McDermotts, Tyholland and Latton respectively in Division Three.

The Gerry’s Prepared Veg. juvenile competitions continue this week with action at Under-16 and Under-14 levels.
