Carrickmacross Notes

February 10th, 2016

Emmets! Playtime again but not on the pitch yet! “The Farney Players” are back rehearsing for the return to stage of David O’Rourke’s splendid production of “Who Goes Bare” which will be performed in the “Garage Theatre” Monaghan on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th February. The show went down a treat in Carrickmacross and hopefully the people and Gaels of Monaghan along with surrounding area will support the presentation; which is of great benefit to the Emmets club. Apart from everything else; the cast are wonderful; the laughs are plentiful; the entertainment is top class; the stage is a hive of illegal activity and the action is non-stop!  Contact Garage Theatre!

The “club lotto” was held in the Emmet Centre on Monday night but there was no winner of the Jackpot; the numbers called were 10, 13, 16 and 21. The winners of the “Keep it Local” vouchers were Michael Courtney €50, Naoimh Kindlon €20 Paddy Lonergan €20 and Giles Meehan €10. Thanks to the sellers on Saturday night and well done! Next week’s jackpot is €4,600.

The interior of Emmet Centre is getting a facelift at the present moment from a voluntary crew of Emmet’s craftsmen who are hard at work on the ceiling area and when the job is completed it will make a huge difference to the internal appearance of the building. Meanwhile the Donaghmoyne Rd complex is almost complete and will be ready for the start of the new season when all our teams will have top class facilities at their disposal.

Last call for “Swim Money” if you have any contributions or sponsorship  monies on hand please get it in to a club member or the Carrickmacross Credit Union as the “Presentation Night” is very shortly.

We remember our former pastor Rev John McCabe who died last week and who administrated in St Joseph’s for a good few years. He won a Senior Football Championship medal playing for Ballybay in Emmet Park in 1969 and the match report said. “Ballybay were ahead by 0-04 to 0-03 at the interval and their lead at this stage could be said to be the result of the wonderful football played at centre-field by John McCabe. He was one of a quartette of Ballybay stars who performed in magnificent manner throughout the hour. He was in his glory in the first half when his catching was superb and his fielding polished and accurate He dominated the exchanges in a clear-cut manner in the first half”

The Emmets also want to extend our condolences to the Corrigan family of Annagassan on the death of Patsy Corrigan and in particular to Brendan and Rosemary Rafferty. Patsy was a brother of Rosemary’s and our thoughts and sympathies are with her on this sad occasion for the family

To finish on a happy note; congratulations to Emmets stalwart full-back James McGeown and his wife on the birth of their son and we wish the new Emmet a “Cead Mile Failthe” and a hearty and healthy welcome to Carrickmacross
