As a family based club catering for all ages; we recognise and appreciate that most of our support comes from the local business community in the Carrickmacross neighbourhood. Our club lotto weekly winners are presented with shopping vouchers equivalent to the amount that they win! There are three options to play; (a) play weekly (b) subscribe-yearly (c) play on-line! The rising Jackpot hits €2000 this week!

Final Call! Can those thoughtful volunteers who participated in the Christmas swim kindly return your monies to the “Christmas Swim” account in the Carrickmacross Credit Union or to the returning officer Jimmy Finnegan 087- 9215698 or to any committee member. The club is anxious to have the presentation night as soon as possible; so that the beneficing charities and deserving organisations can obtain their much needed funding!

Reserve Football! The Emmets second string start the season rolling against Blackhill in Blackhill on this Saturday at 4.15pm. It is important to commence the year on a bright note and this competition is an ideal opportunity to get things in motion for the club. There is a good panel of players available for this team and they should progress further; given that everyone who is eligible togs out and gives their commitment to the team!

Sponsorship! The Emmets want to put on record our appreciation and thanks to Carton Brothers for their generous gesture in sponsoring of a new set of playing jerseys for the juvenile club. Particular acknowledgement to our own John O’Brien who helped in securing the transaction for the benefit of the club and the young Emmets!

The Emmets Gym! The new gymnasium is in full swing with top class equipment installed for the physical benefit of all our players and members. The facility provides the club with a much-needed and improved fitness centre and exercise area to assist the various teams and individuals in their preparation for games and recreation. Membership will be closing shortly so don’t delay in making an application to ensure your inclusion for 2015. The outcome of this splendid facility is mainly down to the effort of the players and they have to be complimented on their initiative and effort at little expense to the club. The gym is not only a benefit for themselves but also for the next generation of players who will follow in their footsteps! If you would like to become a member of the gym for activity, leisure, pastime or hobby you can apply to the chairman of the club Gordon Finnegan on 087-6721520 or enquire from club players or club members as to the procedure for non-members!

Patrician High School! The Emmets send their congratulations to manager Paddy Martin and his team of heroes who represented their school with such distinction on Saturday last when they secured victory over St Malachy’s of Belfast to qualify for the final of the MacLarnon cup. After a worrying period early in the second half they responded with a fine display of enterprising and innovative play. The final will be an all Monaghan decider between Patrician High School and Our Lady’s School Castleblayney; it will be played on St Patrick’s Day in Armagh and we wish our boys every hope of taking the cup back to Carrickmacross.

Registration Night! Well done to all the parents who attended the recent registration night at the Emmet Centre the turn-out was great and the club really appreciates your family commitment to the Emmets. The number of future players was heartening to see and the prospects for the club look bright if judging by enthuastic juvenile gathering is anything to go by!

Spring Clean your Wardrobe! The Emmets unwanted clothing collection is in full swing! All types of clothing will be accepted; Ladies, Gents or Children’s clothing will be accepted as will footwear, bags, belts and bed linen but no duvets or pillows thank you! Clothes should be clean and placed in plastic bags. We will take bags of all sizes; big and small as every bit of garment counts. Drop your bags at the front door of the Emmet Centre on the Ballybay road on or before Saturday 14th March; Spreadthe word to your extended family and friends! Your support is greatly appreciated in our efforts to provide facilities for the community of Carrickmacross so make an effort to gather all the glad-rags you can and deliver them to our door.  You can contact Ursula O’Hanlon on 086-8507092 or Andrew O’Sullivan 087 7977236 or Gordon Finnegan 087-6721520 or text the word Clothes along with your Name and Address to 087 6721520.

Vote of Sympathy! The members and players of the Emmet club were saddened to hear of the death of Brendan Larney, Crann Nua who recently passed to his eternal rest. The huge turn-out for Brendan’s funeral bore testament to the qualities and attributes of a well-respected professional man who was part of our community and club; from which he will be greatly missed. The tributes paid to him by his many friends and colleagues and those who knew him best; were well merited and could hardly be enhanced by us; such was his outstanding personality. His friendship towards many people in Carrickmacross was witnessed for all to see as they paid their respects during his repose. From our perspective we want to be included in the many acknowledges and homages paid to Brendan and thank him for supporting the club over the past number of years. To his heartbroken family we send our condolences; especially to his beloved wife Kathrina his son Patrick and daughters Emma and Megan. Patrick is one of the upcoming stars within the Emmet club and is a talented young man who obviously gets his football ability from the Larney and Cunningham families. It was nice; be it a sad occasion; to see his uncle Jimmy (Cunningham) a former outstanding Emmet player come home from the USA for the funeral.  We also want to extend our sympathies to his mother Bridget, brothers Paschal, Declan and Patrick and sister Mary, his mother-in-law Maisie (Cunningham), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Finally thanks to all the Emmet members who turned out at St Joseph’s church for the “guard of honour” to our lost friend!  “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis”
