Scotstown Notes

August 20th, 2014

Universal Graphic Junior Championship: Hard luck to our junior team as they put in a brave battle on Sat last against Blackhill in this junior championship semi-final. Scores were at a premium in this very tight contest. Blackhill were first off the mark on 11mins, where Scotstown had created plenty of opportunities, however, it wasn’t until the 18th minute, Sean Mohan registered our first score, while they trailed by 3pts to 1 at this stage. It had been a first half of low scores as Blackhill led at the break by 5pts to 2, with Michael McCarville free ending the half. Scotstown had a good third quarter and by 46th minute the sides were level at 6pts each, Sean Mohan, Conor Caulfield, Shane Rice & substitute Daniel McNally contributing to 2nd half scores. Then Blackhill went in front on 52minutes, while Scotstown came close to levelling things on a few occasions, as their efforts went narrowly wide. Blackhill had the last say in the closing minutes as the contest ended on a score of 9pts to 6.Credit to the Management team of Fergus Caulfield, Maurice Boylan & Paul Rooney on guiding the team to a semi-final of a Junior Championship. Then on Sunday 17th our seniors earned two valuable away league points in Truagh. After the sides were level at 2pts on 9mins played, the home side went in front with a well taking goal, this was the only time the home team were ahead , but by the end of the 1st quarter the sides were level again through efforts from Mark Treanor, his 2nd score in the game, Kieran Hughes & Shane Carey. Shane’s goal on 17mins gave the Scotstown team a boost as they extended their advantage with points from Kieran Hughes, Shane Carey (2), Peter O Hara and Conor McCarthy’s 1-1carried them into the interval leading by 2-10 to 2-6.  A Stephen Sherry goal on the restart, followed with a Conor point put them 8pts up.
