One of the World’s Best One Wall Players, Wally Amaro, Puerto Rico with Monaghan’s own Sean Callan who was Runner-Up in the Boys Under 11 Plate Competition at the Lough One-Wall Showdown over the week-end.In the opening round Sean defeated Peter Colgan. He went on to meet Jack Darcy in what can only be described as a brilliant match, the scores were level at 17-17 after 15 minutes and Sean lost the tie-breaker. In the process, Sean hurt his knee, but this did not stop him in the Plate competition.

The eight year old had wins over Shane Mc Kevitt, Matthew Corbett and Cathal Mc Nally to reach the Plate Final. In the Final, Sean met the very experienced Fiachra O Duill, Armagh. The Armagh player used all his court craft and knowledge to defeat the gallant Sean Callan to win the match. It was a great competition for Sean, where he was met and admired by many of handball’s top players at such a tender age. Well done.

MELLANS HANDBALL
40 Years Celebrations.
St.Mellans Handball Club will be celebrating a major milestone in 2014 as we ring in the clubs 40th year in existence, the committee are currently hard at work organising a gala night to celebrate the occasion, we will be publishing a booklet for the event and hope to have a launch night for it in the not too distance future, if anyone inside or even outside the club have any old photo’s or memorabilia from the past 40 years we would very grateful for all the help.
Back in Action. Unfortunately as the nights become longer and as the summer comes to a close the attention begins to switch from the green grass to the indoors of the alley, as that time of year again approaches we are encouraging all players to get back into the swing of things before all events kick off, we would ask parents to try and get juveniles back down as we hope to get juvenile events up and running earlier this year to run alongside the re-opening of the schools, so keep an eye out for notes of all on-goings but be down practicing in the meantime.
AGM. The club will be holding the AGM next month and we would like to ask people of the area to consider coming on board this term to help out, as the club grows steadily bigger each year the amount of organising events leagues etc also increases, so as the old saying goes “many hands make light work”.
