We presented the jackpot cheque of €4,500 to Majella Treanor last Sunday night and we congratulate Majella and wish her well. Lotto draw takes place in the clubhouse every Sunday night. All welcome. The Lotto plays an essential part in the running of the club and we ask for everyone’s continued support. Please note that tickets can be brought down to the clubhouse from 7.45pm on Sundays.

Meetings: The monthly club meetings for April take place tonight (Thursday). The juvenile meeting is at 7pm, followed by the senior meeting at 8.

Darkness into Light: We are helping a very worthy cause, suicide-awareness group Pieta House, to stage their annual ‘Darkness into Light’ walk/run in Monaghan in the early morning of Saturday, May 10. If you want to register to take part, visit: dil.pieta.ie/venues/venue-view/darkness-into-light-monaghan.

Seniors: Our senior footballers have two home games this week, against Currin on Saturday evening and Ballybay on Wednesday. Monaghan’s qualification for the NFL Division Two Final means the April 27 fixture in Doohamlet has been put back to Friday, May 2.

Reserves: Our O’Duffy Cup team suffered another narrow defeat at home to Latton last Friday evening. Liam Hahessy (2-1) and Fearghal McMahon (0-3) were on form in the first half, but we were never able to pull away from Latton and went in level at 2-4 to 1-7. Good points by Niall Greenan and Fearghal kept us level by the end of the third quarter, but having been reduced to 14 men, our challenge faded, with Latton pulling away in the final ten minutes. Our next game is at home to Scotstown on April 23.

Team and scorers: Cónall McKenna; Conor Devlin, Dónal McCarthy, Darren McMahon; Niall Treanor, Ashley White, Dean McMahon; Philip Drohan, Shane Coyle; Conor McCaughey, Michael Galligan, Niall Greenan (0-1); Evan Doherty, Fearghal McMahon (0-4, 1f), Liam Hahessy (2-3, 0-1f).

Subs: Brendan McQuaid for McCaughey (44 mins), Aidan Connell for Devlin (52).

Our McKeown Cup team lost by 4-7 to 0-12 at home to Killanny on Sunday. Despite conceding an early goal, we had the better of the first half, with Gerard Gilsenan kicking five points and Niall Greenan and Brendan McQuaid also on the scoresheet to make it 0-7 to 1-3 in our favour. A free by Gerard and points from play by Francis Lynch and Niall Greenan saw us make an ideal start to the second half, but we then conceded three goals and when a retaken David Loughran penalty went over the bar, the game was beyond our reach.

Team and scorers: Ryan Shields; Dónal McCarthy, Darren McMahon; Niall Treanor, Séamus Brannigan, Turlough Clerkin, Joe Coyle, Philip Drohan; Francis Lynch (0-1), Conor Forde, Brendan McQuaid (0-1); Gerard Gilsenan (0-7, 4f), Niall Greenan (Capt., 0-2)

Subs: Paddy Kelly for Drohan (inj., 15), David Loughran (0-1, pen) for Lynch (44), Dessie McGarry for McQuaid (50), Jason McHugh for Greenan (58).

Minors: The Minor Football League continued last Tuesday with a 3-12 to 2-8 defeat at home to Donaghmoyne. 1-1 by Ramunas and points by Éimhín Morahan, Reece Treanor and Evan Cudden had us ahead by 1-7 to 1-4 at half-time, but a goal by Éimhín and a John Mulligan point proved to be our only scores of the second half. We hosted Killanny on Tuesday and we play St. Patrick’s in Ballybay next Tuesday.

Team and scorers: Darragh Hannon; Darragh Treanor, Tiarnán Bramley, Daniel Kelly; Marc Brennan, Mustafa Gamal (Capt.), David Lowry; Ramunas Ramanauskas (1-1), James McKenna; Evan Cudden (0-1), John Mulligan (0-1), Kyle O’Leary; Reece Treanor (0-2), Éimhín Morahan (1-3), Thomas Bourke.

Subs: Ruairí Forde for O’Leary (39 mins), David Carey for Brennan (45), Conor Flynn for Bourke (55), Adam Treanor for Kelly (57).

U-16: Our Under-16 footballers began their league campaign with an away game against Scotstown last Thursday. An encouraging first half saw our lads lead by 0-7 to 0-6, but Scotstown finished strongly to win by 1-15 to 0-9. The U-16s are at home to Clontibret this Thursday.

Saturday-morning coaching: The Saturday-morning coaching got off to a great start for 2014 with a huge crowd of children last weekend. Thanks to all our coaches and everyone who helped out.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team lost out at home to Truagh by 5-13 to 4-7 in last Saturday’s championship quarter-final. Our lads conceded an early goal, but 1-1 by Conor McCrystal got the Harps up and running, although Truagh then found the net twice in quick succession. Adam O’Neill and Conor got points back for us and Lochlainn Power fired home to level it up, only for Truagh to again raise a green flag at the other end. Another point by Conor and a goal by Lochlainn left our lads trailing by just a point at half-time: 3-4 to 4-2. Conor and Lochlainn hit points in the second half, but Truagh pulled away with a succession of scores and even though Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh replied with a goal, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Team and scorers: Erikas Dikmonas; Colin Peppard, Seán Conway, Andrew Lyden; Killian Conlon, Annan Connor, Dylan Maguire; Adam O’Neill (0-1), Stephen Ward; Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (1-0), Conor McCrystal (1-5, 0-2f), Oisín Fagan; Lochlainn Power (2-1), Corey McArdle, Lorcan O’Rourke.

Subs used: David Leanne, Stephen McMahon.

The Division One team had been unlucky to lose narrowly to Inniskeen (2-12 to 2-10) in the league last Tuesday. The Division Five team also travelled to Inniskeen on Saturday, where they had a comprehensive win.

U-12: Our two Under-12 football teams are at home to Emyvale in the spring league this Saturday, with the first game starting at 12 noon, followed by part two of the double-header at 1.15pm.

Child Protection: Thanks to our club members who attended the child-protection course in the clubhouse last Friday night.

Membership: Membership fees for 2014 can still be paid to Dermot Coyle or Maurice Galligan. Fees for 2014 are being maintained as follows: €20 per adult, €10 per child or €50 for a family of two adults and any number of children.

Garda vetting: In keeping with best practice and child-protection legislation, it is important that everyone involved in the club committee, coaching etc. completes a Garda vetting form. Children’s Officer Tommy McCabe is now completing an up-to-date audit of successfully vetted club personnel. If you have a certificate, please provide Tommy with a photocopy and if you need a vetting form, you can contact him at 087 7635891.

Get fit: Circuit training with All-Ireland winner Ronan Clarke takes place in the clubhouse each Wednesday and Friday evening. The cost is €5 per session and it is open to everyone.

County teams: Well done to Conor Galligan, Shane Smyth and the Monaghan senior footballers on their promotion to Division One of the National Football League. Hard luck to Fearghal McMahon, Michael Galligan, Kevin Loughran and the Under-21s, who were knocked out of the Ulster championship last Wednesday.

Ladies Club 5k: The Harps Ladies are staging a 5km run/walk on Easter Monday, April 21, with registration on the morning from 10am-11.30am (10-10.30 for Under-15s). The cost to take part is €10 for adults, €5 for juveniles and family rates apply.

Bag Pack: We are taking part in a bag-pack in conjunction with Habitat Ireland in Tesco on Holy Thursday, April 17. All help would be greatly appreciated.

Hurling: There was no joy for our Under-14 hurlers in their bid to retain the championship title in the final at Blackhill on Monday evening. The Harps lads competed well and were just a point down at half-time, but struggled to score in difficult conditions and Castleblayney eventually ran out deserving winners. Hard luck to the players and their management of Jim Dalton, Michael O’Donoghue and Thomas McCabe and good luck to Castleblayney in Féile.

Team and scorers: Aaron Treanor; Patrick McCarron, Seán Conway, Ruairc Healy; Lochlainn Power, John Lowry, Niall McKenna; Conor McCrystal (0-1f), Colin Peppard (Joint-Capt.); Cian O’Leary; Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Stephen Ward; Shane McCabe (Joint-Capt.), Tristan Moyna, Killian Treanor.

Subs: Luke Coyle, Vlad Khokha, Evan Meehan, Sebastian Ostrowski, Aidan Cunningham, Daragh Croarkin.

The Minor Hurling League started with a 2-12 to 1-7 win at home to Cootehill last Sunday and continues this Sunday with an away game against Carrickmacross.
