Castleblayney and Truagh contest Senior League Final

Last years holders Castleblayney will battle it out when they take on Truagh in the final of the Senior League in O’Neill Park, Clontibret on Friday evening with a throw in of 7.30pm.

Castleblayney who are entering the fray with an excellent C.V. will be hot favourites to reclaim the Trophy this time round given that their mantlepiece can boast  the entire  2012 camogie silverware  in the County including the Ulster Junior Club Championship .They also have begun 2013 on a winning note when they took the Blitz Cup at the start of the year. They are solid in defence with Goalie Roisin Mc. Kenna  supported by Orla Wills and Orla Mc. Carthy in front of her, then the pairing of Regan Lynch and Rachael Markey at midfield will enhance  the forward strength of Eileen Mc. Elroy, Niamh Brennan, Elaine Mc. Kernan and Kelsey Lam who  incidently was the ace scorer in the qualifier with Clontibret  scoring 1 – 4.

Manager Paul Forde added  :  “ I am looking forward to the League Final  and delighted  to report that ‘Blaney are at full strength going into this final with a host of skilled players to pick from. Training is going well with a full turnout at all the sessions.  The spirit is high in the camp and the team are confident given that we are in our 7th competitive final in a row”.

Truagh on the other hand are just back from the “ashes” having had to withdraw from all competitions  last year due to lack of personell . But babies and all in tow and the wanderers returned, they are back on track and even though they have no trophies since they won the League final in 2009 when they defeated Inniskeen they have competed at several finals in the interim. Lorraine Tierney , Sharon Mc. Caffrey  and Eilish Mc. Carron will be determined to keep their house in order in the backline.  Mary Meehan will partner Yvonne Connell in midfield and Siobhan Mc. Kenna and Orla Mc. Meel will make every effort to control the forward line.

Captain of Truagh Mary Meehan added “ We are looking forward to the final on Friday after what you might call a year out we have trained  and worked hard to get our team back on track and are depending on girls travelling long distances to training and matches and are confident that we have a strong enough panel  to go all the way and will use the match as a stepping stone towards the Championship”.
