CLUB NOTES

12th March 2013

Charity Race Night

Firstly, a big thank-you to everyone who has already committed to sponsoring a race or bought a duck for the big Charity Race Night which takes place this Saturday 16th March in Fitzpatrick’s Bar & Lounge. Just to make you aware the Irish Heart Foundation relies on charitable donations for 90% of its funding and their good work would not be possible without your generous support. You can make a difference and you can still support this charity race night by sponsoring a race or buying a duck so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with myself, Michael Carroll (086-1041165) and make a donation. Events like these are vital to help raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation who provides support to thousands of heart & stroke patients and families every year. Unfortunately, we all know someone that has been affected by heart disease or stroke. Together heart disease and stroke kills more people than cancer, suicide and road deaths combined. This year around 10,000 people will have a stroke in the country and sadly over 2,000 people will die and thousands more will be left disabled. A significant proportion of this death and disability is avoidable by creating awareness about heart disease and stroke the Irish Heart Foundation hopes to lower these rates and with your help this will be possible. So kick start your St. Patrick’s weekend by supporting the Irish Heart Foundation and lending a hand on the night. Everyone is welcome to attend and your support is deeply appreciated for this very worthy cause. As previously highlighted, this race night will be a night with a difference because I am encouraging people to be there on the night to give as much encouragement to your duck as possible because for this race night you need only a duck and a straw and the rest they say is up to you! It promises to be a great laugh and is guaranteed to be a fantastic night of fun and racing action.

Mr & Mrs Competition

Briege Brannigan in conjunction with the Rockcorry Drama Group will be holding a Mr & Mrs competition to raise funds for the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. It will take place on Friday 26th April in St. Mary’s Hall and tickets for this event will be on sale shortly and cost €10 each. I imagine, you know the format from the TV show and master of ceremonies on the night will be Northern Sound’s Breakfast-Roll DJ Sean McCaffrey and music entertainment will be provided by the amazingly talented and colourful character Robert Brown. A number of local couples have already signed up for the competition and I understand that a number of ladies have been putting their partners through their paces in preparation of the big night! When the full list of couples is finalised I will reveal all in a couple of weeks’ time. So folks, if you want to have a laugh and plenty of craic with the various couples while also supporting a very worthy cause then don’t delay and make sure you get your tickets for the first ever Rockcorry Mr & Mrs competition. Doors on the night will be opening at 9.00pm with the show starting at 9.30pm sharp so please arrive early to claim a seat.
